Busch Gardens - Gwazi is Busch Gardens Tampa Bay's mammoth double wooden coaster. It is also the Southeast's largest and fastest double wooden roller coaster boasting more than 1.25 million board feet of lumber and over 2 million bolted connections. Named after a fabled lion with a tiger's head, Gwazi races riders through almost 7,000 feet of track and is two distinct coasters intertwined:
The Gwazi Tiger - has an element that gives riders a slalom sensation more like a bobsled than a wooden roller coaster.
The Gwazi Lion - the highlight here is the seemingly continuous number of spirals.
Tampa Bay Downs - Tampa Bay Downs is the only Thoroughbred race track on the West Coast of Florida and this season is offering over $2.5 million in prize money in stakes races alone! Tampa Bay Downs is the place to be this winter for horsemen and racing fans alike.
One of America’s oldest and most well-maintained racetracks, Tampa Bay Downs first opened its doors in 1926 under the name of Tampa Downs, and has had a long and colorful history. The present owner purchased the track in 1986, and since then the track has been continually improving.
Honeymoon Island State Park - The pioneers called it Hog Island, but it became Honeymoon Isle in 1939 when a New York developer built 50 palm - thatched bungalows for honeymooners. Today, visitors can drive across Dunedin Causeway to enjoy the sun - drenched Gulf beaches, mangrove swamps, and tidal flats. Nature lovers will find osprey nests, a wide variety of shorebirds, and one of the few remaining virgin slash pine forests in South Florida. The park boasts several nature trails and bird observation areas. Visitors can swim, fish, and snorkel in the warm waters of the Gulf or picnic while they enjoy the beautiful scenery. Shelling is particularly good here, as the Gulf currents deposit an incredible variety of seashells on the shore. Showers are available and the park´s concession has a gift shop and snack bar. Located at the extreme west end of State Road 586.
